Current 3-D Movies
3-D movies have been around since the 1930’s. In the 1930’s and 1940’s, viewers needed to wear glasses with red and blue lenses to see 3-dimensional scenes. These movies were never popular. During the 1950’s, viewing audiences used glasses with polarized lenses. This permitted viewers to watch 3-D movies in full color. 3-D failed in the 1950’s for the following reasons.
- People did not like wearing glasses.
- People complained of eye strain and headaches. This is an inherent property of all stereoscopic processes, whether or not glasses are used.
- The 3-dimensional scenes do not look real. When you look at a natural 3-dimensional scene, you focus on specific objects. Everything else is blurred. You can shift your focus to other objects when you want to look at them. With 3-D, you do not have that option.
3-D movies have become popular once again. However, there is a need for a new process that does not have the drawbacks of 3-D.
